WHAT DO WE DO ABOUT NATIONAL INSURANCE?
We stand with Myles Laroda, the Minister of State for National Insurance, on the bluntness with which the message was delivered out of his mouth, the contributions for National Insurance will have to be increased if the fund is to be saved. There is no other way around it. If it’s not this year, then next year. The Prime Minister Philip Davis is right in a political sense that the pain might be too severe now but it must come. No pain no gain. The Governments of The Bahamas have been warned from as far back as 2003 that the fund would run out of money by 2028 if nothing was done to rescue it. Now here we are less than one election cycle away and the problem is staring us right in the face. The Bahamian people have to get real.
