Climate Change is now front and centre of any foreign policy initiative and public policy thrust of The Bahamas. The intensity and frequency of the hurricanes is an issue.  The whole country could one day be overwhelmed by the waters and the wind.  This is where the Americans come in.  We have argued here that all visa and work permit requirements for Bahamians ought to be abolished for entry into the US and Canada. The fact is the US and Canada are the countries who have produced the carbon pollutants that caused this problem that we now face with climate change. They therefore have an obligation to ensure that not only are the problems of climate change in the immediate sense mitigated by their monies but ultimately if the efforts fail and all of us here have to move to higher ground, that there is a place in the US and Canada for Bahamians to go.  Some of the small island states of the Pacific have already had that discussion with New Zealand and Australia. It may be time for us to have that discussion with the United States and Canada.
