THIS STUFF ABOUT MARITAL RAPE
As the Prime Minister Philip Davis was leaving a press conference to announce his new ambassadors to the UN and to Cuba, he was ambushed by the press outside the conference to talk about marital rape. This is the topic du jour it appears today once more. Predictably the headline was about what he said on that and not on his press conference. The headline read “ rape is rape”. Many of the women in the country at a high professional and educational level are campaigning for rape within marriage to be specifically criminalized. The problem is, it does not have the support of the country across the board. So the PM is walking a fine line between trying to be sensitive to a major female concern and trying not to offend the majority of the population on this issue. We support the criminalizing of rape within a marriage but it has a long way to go before acceptance generally in the society.
