THERE IS A TIME FOR SILENCE
Ministers should know by now that they have no personal opinions as such. Every little word or nuance that you drop in public gets super analyzed and can be turned into something that it was not meant to be.
To wit: JoBeth Coleby Davis wrote an innocent tweet in sympathy to Jada Pinkett and the alopecia because she too has alopecia. Dr. Duane Sands the FNM’s party chair turned that into Mrs. Coleby Davis was supporting violence. We fought that stupidity by Dr. Sands off.
But later in the week Friday 1 April 2022, there was another unforced error. The Minister of National Security made some statement which if he were a defence attorney would be fine but he is now the Minister and that made it look like he was condoning grown men sleeping with young under aged girls.
He walked the statement back the next day in the face of a firestorm of criticism.
The Prime Minister Philip Davis issued the following note on Facebook:
Let’s be clear grown men should stay away from children. The law is designed to protect children, who cannot meaningfully offer consent and it should be enforced to the fullest extent.
There is a lesson in this to all: there is a time for silence.
