NEW YORK — Mr. Chandila Fernando (left), an Entrepreneurial Economist, paid a courtesy call on the Hon. Forrester J. Carroll, Bahamas Consul General to New York, on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at Bahama House, 231 E 46th Street. Discussion centered on unorthodox, but necessary, steps needed to clear bad debts and lay foundations for sustainable growth in the economies of small countries. Mr. Fernando said he has been following the remarkable economic transformation of The Bahamas and its rebound due to The Bahamas Government’s very obvious prudent fiscal policies of financial reforms over the last three years. He suggested that this significant turnaround of fortunes has been delivered through strong leadership and nimble government and has occurred because of a program of sustained “heavy lifting.” Mr. Fernando thinks that with such prudent fiscal policies, The Bahamas should within a couple fiscal periods be in a position to balance its annual budgets.
