THE TRUMP PRESIDENCY
(Charles Blow)
The United States has become another country under this man whose picture we show. It is quite sad that the post Second World War consensus has broken down by the election of this man to head the United States. The rationale of his presidency, the reasoning are all inaccurate and racist and misogynist. It seems quite incredible: now using the power of his office to ban people from seven countries from coming to the United States. This is coming from a country that sings that it is the land of the free and the home of the brave, a refuge for all who long for political, religious or other personal freedoms, that has brow beaten other countries about freedom of movement around the world. There is clearly a double standard operating here. That is just one example of the sadness and disappointment that the whole world feels about these election results in the US. So we brace for more but the voices in the US itself do not seem have been stilled, that remember that they have an international obligation to end this aberration that is now with us and before us. Charles Blow a columnist for the New York Times wrote and an interesting article on the subject of the language and arguments of the Trump administration. He calls them lies. We agree. Here is how he ends his final paragraph in the column of 27 January: “We all have to adjust to this unprecedented assault on the truth and stand ready to vigilantly defend against it, because without truth, what’s left? Our president is a pathological liar. Say it. Write it. Never become inured to it. And dispense with the terms of art to describe it. A lie by any other name portends the same.”
