THE GOVERNMENT PLANS TO CHARGE MORE FOR POWER
Just when the BPL customers thought it was safe to get back into the water, guess what the Government of The Bahamas had: a November surprise for them. The Minister for Electricity Desmond Bannister says that he will be putting a levy on our electricity bills come next year. He says this is to pay for 650 million dollars that they are borrowing. The loan will settle 300 million of legacy debt for the Corporation and give them 350 million more to pay for the new equipment they want to stop the black outs. The black outs continue and the union President Paul Maynard says that they are not going to stop as promised this Christmas either. He says that we had better pray for a cool winter or there will be blackouts until the spring. Interesting. People took to the streets when the Government fooled with Junkanoo last week but not a peep from the public on the rate rise.
