The Funeral OF Fritzie Eneas
Dr. Cleveland Eneas Jr whom we all knew as Fritzie died in 3rd August 2019. He was cremated and a service of thanksgiving was held for him at the Church of God Auditorium in Joe Farrington Road. How to explain him in context? He was social and civic activist in the tradition of his father Dr. Cleveland Eneas Sr. They were afro centric. His mother Finny, proper name Muriel, taught a generation of Bahamians the traditions of an African American transplanted into The Bahamas for a lifetime, the value of being who you are even as black as the ace of spades. Fritzie was a raconteur like his Dad. He was a good story teller. He led the Lunch Bunch social gentleman’s association that his father helped to form. They meet for lunch every Tuesday at each other’s homes. A good time is had by the old boys every time. Henry Dean, one of the group, told the story at the funeral, how they gathered at their late friend’s bedside in hospital and sang hymns in chorale from the Anglican Hymn book. He was the father of an Africanist preacher and the obit said he embraced that movement as one of its clergy as an elder of the Holy Qubtic Church of the Black Messiah, where his son Cleveland III aka Ka Hun: Anku Sa Ra was the pastor. Yet he was buried in a Presbyterian service where his father took them after converting from Church of God. Interesting life. Senator Fred Mitchell attended the service on Saturday 10th August 2019.
