The Frank Smith Case At No Case Stage
The press covered extensively the submissions of both the Crown and the Defence in the case of Frank Smith, the former Senator who was charged in a politically inspired case by the FNM of extorting a bribe from a contractor of the Public Hospitals Authority called Barbara Hanna. Defence Counsel K D Knight was able to get the Crown to accept that at the very least their prime witness made a mistake. He said she was lying. It would seem that that mistake is fatal to the case. However, the Crown minimized that saying that it was only because she was frustrated. The Magistrate Joyann Pratt has reserved her ruling to the 1 February on whether or not Mr. Smith has a case to answer.
