THE DEATH OF LEON GRIFFIN
Our condolences go out with great sadness to our friend and former colleague in Parliament Melanie Griffin for a sad end to the life of her husband Loen Griffin, tragic in fact. He was murdered at the end of a fruitful life fighting for his country, for the success of Bahamians and for his family. He drove up to his home on Thursday 23 December 2021 after a day at his jewelry shop. It was just after eight or so. Someone was waiting They walked up to car and fired a single shot into the window of the car, killing him instantly. His wife Melanie was just putting up the Christmas decorations when she heard the shot ring out. Bedlam followed. A peaceful neighbourhood was shattered and the noises of police cars and the flash of police lights lit up the quiet Winton neighbourhood. The question one asks again is why whatever it was, this descended into violence in this way? His business partner was killed a few months ago. Another business partner was threatened a few days ago. Now Mr. Griffin is dead. The Prime Minister issued the following statement:
23 December 2021
I am shocked and deeply saddened to hear of the brutal homicide of Leon Griffin, the husband of my colleague and friend in front of their home tonight. I express my condolences to Melanie, his children and the wider family.
I ask for our supporters and all citizens across the length and breadth of our country to pray for the repose of his soul, to pray for Melanie and the family.
I pledge to use all the resources of the state to resolve this heinous crime.
