‘It is with deep regret and sadness that we have learnt of the untimely death of your Foreign Minister Anna Lindh, a gifted politician, who was highly respected not only in Sweden, but also in the international community. The tragic senselessness of her murder reminds us that even in otherwise sane and peaceful societies, the cost of rendering public service in politics can be exceptionally high.
Ms Lindh’s commitment to the integration movement in Europe and to democratic values was well known, as was her fearlessness in speaking out about controversial issues. Her death is a tragic loss and one which is made all the more senseless because it has no justification, rhyme or reason.
On behalf of the Government and people of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, I wish to extend sincere condolences to the Government and people of Sweden and to the family of Ms Lindh, on the death of this honoured daughter.”
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas avails itself of this opportunity to renew to the Embassy of Sweden, the assurances of its highest consideration.
