RYAN PINDER AT THE UNITED NATIONS
The Attorney General Ryan Pinder K C spoke at the United Nations last week to make the case for the International Tax Treaty that would govern the standards of financial services throughout the world. The Bahamas and other small states have been chafing at the bit as the developed world through the European Union and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) have been imposing unilaterally standards on financial transactions throughout the world. Except they exempt themselves from any of the strictures that they impose on small countries. Every time the small countries meet the goals. The goal is shifted by the developed countries. It is not certain however how effective a tax treaty would be, guided through the United Nations, if the developed countries do not agree, but it is useful first start to get the European Union and the OECD off our necks.
