Reverend Timothy Stewart (second from the right) at the a Progressive National Baptist Convention 8th August

From The Office of the Leader of the Opposition

On The Election of Rev. Timothy Stewart to the Office of President Elect Progressive National Baptist Convention

For Immediate Release

9 August 2018

I was pleased to learn of the election of Rev. Timothy Stewart, Pastor of the historic Bethel Baptist Church, to the office of President Elect of the Progressive National Baptist Convention of the United States, of which Rev Dr Martin Luther King was first President. Rev Stewart is the first non U S citizen to be so elected. He was elected unopposed.

Lisa Bethel, daughter of George and Patricia Bethel and another Bahamian, has been chosen as the First Assistant Secretary Elect.

The election took place in Philadelphia yesterday at the annual convention of the body.

I am advised that Rev Stewart officially takes office on Friday, 10 August when he will reveal his Strategic Plan for the next 4 years. The headquarters of the organization is Washington D.C.

My wife Anne joins me with the entire Progressive Liberal Party in extending warmest congratulations to Rev and Mrs Stewart and the entire Bethel and Baptist community.
