Protest In Grand Bahama

The Bahamas Government has formally written the Grand Bahama Port Authority and asked them to do a proper valuation of their company. If this report is true then push may be coming to shove. It certainly is so on the ground in Grand Bahama. Darren Cooper, a Freeport businessman, led a large demo outside h Grand Bahama Port Authority to call into question whether or not they are doing their job of promoting the city. The Port has been selling off assets and collecting fees. The latest thing they ditched was the Grand Bahama International Airport. The problem appears that they do not have the money or the talent to take the project any further. The 1955 agreement is no longer serving the people of the country. It is time to bail and we hope that the request for the valuation means that there is a buyer on the way who has the capital and the talent to move this on. There was some criticism about Ginger Moxey, the Minister for Grand Bahama, not being present at the demo. Ministers don’t have to demonstrate, they need to act. And why would she be there to help the cause of Iram Lewis and Frederick McAlpine, two FNM MPs, who were in office for five years and did nothing to solve the situation while in office?
