My brothers and sisters of Bain and Grants Town:
Praise and thanks be to Almighty God. I trust that you enjoyed a Merry Christmas.
Once again my plan to seek to represent you in Parliament
has to be postponed. As you may be aware, Mr. Bradley Roberts the Member
of Parliament for Bain and Grants Town recently announced his intention
to stay in office for the remaining 2 and one half years of the present
Parliamentary term.
The decision by Mr. Roberts breaks the agreement made
with me, and the promise he gave to you before the election in May 2002,
that he will serve the first half (2 and one half years) of the term and
then retire, giving me an opportunity to offer to be your representative.
But such is life. I can only say in the words of
a wise man, "If I knew then what I know now..."
In the midst of my very deep disappointment I am reminded
of the biblical story of Jacob, found in Genesis chapter 29. Jacob
loved Rachel and he made an agreement with Rachel's father Laban to work
for Laban for seven years after which Laban would give Rachel to be his
wife. At the end of the seven long, hard years, Laban backed out
of the deal, leaving poor Jacob no choice but to agree to work another
seven years for his beloved Rachel.
My brothers and sisters, like Jacob's love for Rachel,
my love for you is strong enough to overcome any obstacle, to withstand
any delay.
I have been serving you for 18 years and each year my
love and commitment to you grows stronger. Two and one half years
is a short time for you, because you are worth the wait.
Therefore, let us together continue the great work we
have been doing in Bain and Grants Town, and by God's grace and favour
we shall be united in 2007.
Finally Bain and Grants Town, be strong. If God
be for us who can be against us?
You are worth the wait.
With much love and respect
Sen. Dr. C. B. Moss
