MITCHELL ON THE GRAND BAHAMA PORT AUTHORITY
On Friday 8 March 2024 following a brief visit to Grand Bahama, Fred Mitchell, the Chairman of the Progressive Liberal Party, responded to an article that appeared in The Tribune Business Section on 5 March 2024. The Grand Bahama Part Authority has hired Fred Smtih Q C (up from the grave) and Robert Adams QC to fight the effort for the government to collect its money owed to the Government for the services provided to the city. The notice of arbitration may already have been sent by the Government’s lawyers. This suggests now that the issues have been formally joined. There has been one of the shareholders who has been in the press every week fighting the government publicly and with sneering almost racist comments with regard to the government’s efforts to recover the city and get it on the path to growth which has largely been abandoned by the Grand Bahama Port Authority. Fred Mithell spoke on a voice note in the week and warned the Port that the issue will not go away. Freeport must be returned to the Bahamian people.
