MINNIS TURNS OUT TO BE AN EMPTY BLOWHARD
Hubert Minnis last week was reported in this site to have said that he would buss the ass of the Prime Minister Philip Davis when he went to the House of Assembly on Wednesday 16 March 2022. On 22 March 2022 when he appeared in the House, he was able to do and say nothing of consequence. Instead he slinked into the House of Assembly like a sacred rat behind a phalanx of police officers. So much for bussing ass.
This has been the pattern of Mr. Minnis. A lot of hot air and then nothing delivered. It was the pattern in his Prime Ministership throughout. It started with the infamous Oban deal. Do you remember how the Prime Minister of The Bahamas sat down in the first year of his term and purported to sign a five billion dollar, not million but billion dollar deal to put up an oil refinery in Grand Bahama. It was not long before the press discovered that the signature appended to the document was not in fact the signature of the person who was signing it. In other words, the document was a pure fake and the Prime Minister was a party to the fraud on the Bahamian people.
It was downhill for his government from there. But the real problems came when the hurricane hit. Hurricane Dorian was a real test of leadership. His government failed the test. For the first time in living memory, there were hundreds of deaths resulting from a hurricane. At last count hundreds dead and thousands missing. That is the legacy of Hubert Minnis.
Then the pandemic hit. The health crisis showed the kind of personality Mr. Minnis had. He locked up the population, prohibited them from moving on the streets, sent them to jail for being out past curfews. The country was a military state for almost two years until the PLP came to power and freed the population again.
So it was fitting that when Hubert Minnis showed up at the House last week, that he was greeted by the shout that here was the man who locked up the people of The Bahamas and then he was called a piece of sugar honey ice tea.
We agree.
An empty blowhard.
