MINNIS: THINGS FALL APART
The poet William Butler Yeats was writing about the turbulent times in Ireland during his time. He said in his poem “ The Second Coming”: “ Things fall apart…the centre cannot hold.” You could not help but think about that line this past week as one FNM after the next got up to attack the very government that four years ago they were praising to the high heavens.
This dumb crew has finally found out that governing is hard work and that it is not all that it is cracked up to be from the point of view of glamour and money.
So Lanisha Rolle gets the award for best performance in a drama series. She claimed that she was bullied because she was a woman. She also claimed that the idea of her being investigated in the Prime Minister’s dismissal announcement hurt herself and her family and was not justified. She said that she now understood how Philip Davis, Leader of the Opposition, had endured and praised him for his service.
Peter Turnquest attacked the government for its land programme as discriminatory.
Hank Johnson, the silly man from Eleuthera, said that his constituents were waiting too long on the Government to make a decision on the Disney Project in Eleuthera.
Well the one who gets the crown must be Rev Frederick McAlpine who tore stripe off the Prime Minister, so much so that the PM got up and left the Assembly.
So here’s the thing. The Prime Minister has told the country that there will not be an early election, notwithstanding the fact the he put news out at Christmas time that he was going to call an election just after Easter. That proved to be untrue of course. Now they are saying November. We believe it will run right out to the end with the Prime Minister praying Hail Mary full of Grace every night.
The reason is the polls are so bad against him. But he knows this: the undecideds in the polls are too high. The polls show him running neck and neck with Philp Brave Davis with him having a slight edge at the moment. So his advisors tell him go now while there is this perceived competitive advantage on Brave Davis.
Problem with that is the PLP hasn’t started campaigning yet Any perceived advantage will disappear once the great PLP machine cranks up.
So Dr. Minnis: damned if you do, damned if you don’t.
