MINNIS’ DOUBLE TALK ON SIR BALTRON BETHEL
Sir Baltron Bethel, the former Senior Policy Advisor to the last Prime Minister has been much maligned by friend and foe alike. The PLPs said he was too old and should not be working. The FNM said the same thing and said he was being paid too much. The election is gone six months now. Hubert Minnis, the Prime Minister, still has his microscope and is busy revealing people’s personal business to the country. It is the modus operandi of his Government. Like they revealed the salary of the BEC executive from America that they fired, putting her reputation at risk and her personal safety. Now they have accused the PLP of giving Dr. Bethel an 800,000 contract. Of course the facts are that they are talking about a contract over many years—four to be exact. So it’s much ado about nothing. These are the same people who paid a former Minister $250,000 per year to leave his cushy job at Paradise Island in order to work for the pennies which the Government offered. The Prime Minister who was complaining about the money Sir Baltron got for all the splendid and professional work he did with complete integrity was at the same time saying that MPs were worth more than they were getting and should be paid more. His Minister of Health had just gotten through complaining that nurses were leaving the country because they were not being paid what they were worth. Bottom line you pay for what you get and if you want to get top quality advice you have to pay public servants properly. But no all Hubert Minnis wants to do is sully the names and reputations of good and honest people, with his begrudgeful approach to government. He should be ashamed of himself.
