Melanie Griffin welcomed Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Country Representative Maria Florencia Attademo-Hirt in a courtesy call at the Ministry, January 8, 2016. During the visit they discussed progress made on the Social Safety Net Programme RISE that was launched in 2015. R-I-S-E, standing for ‘Renewing,’ ‘Inspiring,’ ‘Sustaining’ and ‘Empowering,’ is a conditional cash transfer system — an undertaking of the Bahamas Government with the assistance of the IDB — to support efforts of underprivileged persons to achieve a better standard of life.
