STATEMENT BY SENATOR FRED MITCHELL

ON THE PRE SCHOOL AT SANDILANDS PRIMARY SCHOOL

RESPONDING TO THE MINISTER OF EDUCATION

A report appearing on Eyewitness News’ website attributes commentary to the Minister of Education that I told a lie on the state of Sandilands Primary School and the headline reads “Fred Mitchell Is A Liar”. This was all arising out of a statement I gave earlier asking the Minister of Education to take cognizance and act on a proposal which was before the Ministry of Education to build an administration building and retrofit the old administration building at the school into a pre-school.

I have checked my records and the Minister of Education should retract any statement indicating that what was said (by me) was a lie. He knows better. I wrote him a note this morning and asked him if had taken leave of his senses. This indecorous language that these new FNM ministers use in public doesn’t frighten me. They must not get too big for their britches or forget themselves or there must be hell to pay.

No matter their issues with the messenger, they must build the new administration building and the pre-school. It is badly needed. No next week but now.

Having said that, I have checked with the private donor. The offer still stands. The drawings were approved. The Ministry had previously agreed to assist in the costs of the proposal. They have reneged on that agreement. All the Minister has to do is check the records. I have an email trail relating to this matter in communication with the Minister of Education that goes back to October of last year. We will really see who is a liar.
