HOW TO COLLECT TAXES?

Jesus had a disciple named Matthew who was a tax collector. In The Bible tax collectors were hated by the Jewish people because they were agents of the Roman overlords.

A public servant was quoted in the press announcing that the Government of The Bahamas was going after its citizens to pay their real property tax.  The public servant said that she would not be taking any half payments.  She wanted all the money or the properties would be sold on 2 April 2024 at auction.  Understandably this caused a panic in the population and has turned out to be wildly unpopular, even though we agree with the Prime Minister that you ought to pay your taxes. The question is the extent and degree. Bedside manners make all the difference. We are in the political business and it’s fine for public servants who are in protected positions to say and do whatever they want but in the end, it will be the PLP that gets blamed.
