Mr. Gomez says that if successful in obtaining the PLP’s nomination for the area and when elected, he will focus his energies on the issues of housing, poverty and unemployment. Mr. Gomez believes that there still exists in the area a large amount of sub-standard housing and is anxious to spearhead the St. Margaret Urban Renewal Project similar to other initiatives that have been introduced in areas such as Farm Road, St. Cecilia and Bain & Grants Town. Mr. Gomez applauds the efforts made in those areas and anticipates similar success in the St. Margaret Constituency. Mr. Gomez will draw on the resources of the Department of Housing, Department of Social Services and the Urban Renewal programme to assist in the re-development plan. Mr. Gomez also feels that unemployment, particularly amongst the constituency’s young men, needs a more focused approach and intends to explore innovative ways of getting the area’s unemployed on rewarding jobs.
