False Alarm On Suicide Of Youngster At Doris Johnson

There is a great danger in social media and the propensity that it has to check unverified, false information. Such was an example this past week, when chat sites all had it on authority that a young student from Doris Johnson High had committed suicide. Even the teachers thought it was true. Turns out that it was not, but in the process, a young man and his parents had to suffer that trauma of false news being spread. It’s not funny people. The police issued a statement on 18 April 2019.

POLICE PRESS UPDATE

In response to a report being circulated on social media of a suicide involving a juvenile male, police wish to inform that we have received NO reports of a suicide or attempted suicide.

We wish to encourage persons using social media sites, to be responsible with information they are posting.

Thank You
