D’AGUILAR DEFENDS THE INDEFENSIBLE IN FREEPORT
Former Tourism Minister Dionisio D’Aguilar
So Chester Cooper, the Minister for Tourism, and responsible for the negotiations with Royal Caribbean, for the white elephant in Freeport called Grand Lucayan, which was purchased from the Hutchison Group at a fleeced price, announced last week that the PLP Government was done with the deal. The hotel is now back on the open market. The Minister explained that the deal was a bad deal from the start an has caused the Bahamian people 150 million dollars and counting with little to show for it. Enter the picture his predecessor, the man responsible for doing the deal and he admitted it was a bad deal but they felt they had to do it. This is evil. To waste the money of Bahamian taxpayers knowing that there will be no benefit. Now the PLP has to fix the mess. The hotel must be opened and not a moment too soon.
