CAN WE GET ANYTHING DONE… NO STREET LIGHTS AT NIGHT
Seven months ago, the PLP came to power and with it supposedly took over the management of the Bahamas Power and Light company ( BPL). The street lights in New Providence were dark in many spots in New Providence. We are advised that it is also the case in the family islands. People complained to their new representatives about it. Reports were made to BPL to fix the dark spots. In seven months nothing has happened. The back story is that the FNM got a Caribbean Development Bank loan to fix all the lights but a foreign company won the bid. The FNM did not want to fight the battle over that while facing an election. The answer was to give it to the Bahamian company that came in second , since the foreign company had performed badly in an earlier job in The Bahamas. Nothing happened under the FNM. Two of the rich MPs Dionisio D’Aguilar and Brent Symonette, reportedly spent 24k and 30k respectively to replace all the rights in their area at the princely sum of 150 dollar per light. The problem is that the orange lights that abound are obsolete, no longer manufactured and all have to be eventually replaced by l.e.d. lights. If you go to Montague Beach from the Royal Nassau Sailing Club through the park to the Nassau Sailing Club where women work out every morning, the place is in darkness. The report as been made toe BPL. Again nothing has happened. The PLP needs to fix this problem. We didn’t come to government to be impotent.
