AUDITOR GENERAL SAYS TELL WHO OWNS THE COMPANIES
The Auditor General Terence Bastian sent to Parliament an explosive report. The report indicated that he had been requesting of the Government the names of the beneficial owners of the companies that were granted contracts from the Government during the Covid emergency. The Government of the FNM, elected on transparency and accountability, refused to do so. Attorney General Carl Bethel gave a lousy excuse saying that the law did not permit it. Another Minister got up and said they will have to amend the law, However, that is foolish on the face of it, if the Auditor General asks for a report, he can get a summons from the Parliament to do so . That means the Ministry of Finance must comply. The Government can therefore do so if it wanted to, before any such summons was served.
