EDITOR,

"WHOM the gods would destroy they
first make mad."
Madness, what else could account
for the utterance of the MP for south Andros during convention while the
matter was still under deliberation?
"Pleasant is a free woman! God
still reigns PLP's!"
These from the mouth of a former
senior newscaster who should definitely know better and whose statements
could easily be construed as contempt of court, thank heaven for the intervention
of senior Justice Allen.
Sanity prevails, but at what cost?
It is common knowledge that the
legal system in this country is in dire straits and is, in my opinion,
already the laughingstock of the region resulting from the verdicts handed
down by juries in a number of recent cases, including murder, which appeared
to be based on nothing more than "national pride" or us against them.
The fact that a certain political
party and a number of their members in particular, notwithstanding the
official apology, have long felt and acted as if they were above the law
simply adds credence.
It will indeed be a happy day when
the ignorant among us, politicians included, understand that God did not
give this land to any particular political party, group, nor race of people,
and that politics and discrimination, national, racial or otherwise have
no place in our legal system.
As a just reward for his inanities,
and instead of the taxpayers, the member for south Andros should be made
to foot the bill for the ensuing retrial.
