THE NEW ANGLICAN ARCHBISHOP SPEAKS
The new Anglican Archbishop of the Providence of the West Indies Howard Gregory has weighed in on the situation in Venezuela. The American government has been pressuring Venezuela and Cuba with new sanctions and strangling the economies of those countries in order to get the present leaders of the country out. It is a misdirected policy and does not comport with the will of the people of those countries. The situation appears to be quite dire in Venezuela with shortages of food and medicine and almost daily demonstrations in the streets. President Nicholas Maduro has managed to hold on despite all the pressure. The Anglican Archbishop in his first pastoral letter since being elected adopted the view of CARICOM that there must be a peaceful settlement but he called the situation in Venezuela a “manufactured crisis”.
