PETER TURNQUEST: IM BLACK AND CANT BE A RACIST
One of the biggest laughs of the anti-tax campaign is the claim by Peter Turnquest, the Finance Minister, that because he is black he cannot be a racist against Black people. Now that is a non sequitur if you’ve ever heard one. Mr. Turnquest said that when he looks in the mirror every morning, he sees a Black man. Well sir look again: there is black and then there is black. The problem is that you come from a classist’s position. You think you are a cut above. You sneer at the average man. You hate them and you think that they should not have more than you. So the policies that you are affecting are racist, not because of the colour of your skin but it’s the cultural memory that you exercise that the slave and their descendants are to be drawers of water and hewers of wood. That’s just how it is.
